The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
I am for the
most part a self-taught Scottish artist presently living in Malibu, California,
USA. My
art reflects my love of animals and nature. My mosaic life began in
2004. After experimenting and immersing myself in the world of
mosaics I found myself drawn to smalti,
firstly for the colors, and secondly for the challenge of cutting and
laying the ‘tesserae’ to create the
look of a smalti 'painting'. I had
previously illustrated 'The Mad Hatter's Tea Party' in watercolor and
wanted the challenge of bringing them to life two dimensionally.
In choosing
‘The Mad Hatter's Tea Party’ from the book
‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’, I wanted to capture Alice's mood as
she is faced with the absurdity and madness of the tea party in
contrast with the beautiful garden she finds herself in. To date,
mosaics are the most satisfying art form I have embraced and therefore
cannot wait to start another.
